Ok, so here’s the deal – she went in today for an ultrasound because they found a mysterious thing in her left boobie on Friday. The ultrasound today led to a biopsy, in which they dunked her in and out of the MRI tube 4 times to find the little dealy. It went something like this – Slide her in to find the dumb thing, pull her out and put some plastic tube in, put her back in to make sure they aimed right, pull her out and take 12-15 samples of the lump (thereby removing it for all intents and purposes) put a titanium marker in to help them locate the area in the future if they need to, stick her back in to make sure they marked the right spot, render themselves unable to find said marker, pull her out and put a second one in and then stick her back in, at which point they did find the second one.
They then took her upstairs for a mammogram (nothing like getting your booby poked, prodded, stuck like a pig and then squished like the cheeks of a chubby 9-year old when his aunt Mildred comes to visit…super fun) where they found BOTH clips…seriously!?!
So now we play our favorite game – hurry up and wait. They biopsied the thing on the left side (in the BOOBIE) to make damn sure they know what it is. We should know on Wednesday or Thursday what it is and we are fervently praying that it is NOT cancer.
We have a pre-op appt with the surgeon and the reconstructive surgeon both next Tuesday at which point we will pick a date for the actual surgery. Pending the results of today’s biopsy, we have decided that we will get the surgery done at Anschutz in Denver, that she will have a mastectomy on the right side with a reconstruction using cadaver tissue.
This means that she will be in the hospital down there for a few days, but then I’ll get to bring her home and she will be taking roughly 2 weeks off of anything but rest and relaxation.
Short and sweet – time for soup, bread and a beer.
Much love,
Jeydrienne
